Water Journal: Kathmandu Valley & Gandaki Province, Nepal
2023
Handmade casebound artist’s book, Monotype, Graphite & Colored pencil
3” x 4”

Water Journal is part of a daily drawing practice keeping track of all the places I noticed water while traveling through Nepal in the Summer of 2023. My residency at the Space A International Artist Residency took place in July, traditionally the start of monsoon season in Nepal. I arrived with the anticipation that I would be navigating and negotiating my first experiences with a monsoon. However, the anticipated rainfall arrived later then expected and coincided with a significantly hotter then average daily temperature norms. My daily journal was an in the moment reflection on place, culture and weather norms in a country heavily impacted by rising temperatures and changing weather patterns due to the effects of human caused climate change. The spaces the water took up documented in my journal were then transposed into abstracted shapes located on the pages of the artist’s book Rainfall.
